Pedro Ruiz & Monalisa Perez: 22-Year-Old Shot & Killed by Pregnant Girlfriend While Attempting YouTube Stunt for Internet Fame

Seeking social media fame resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man and the arrest of his pregnant 19-year-old girlfriend. Pedro Ruiz of Minnesota was shot and killed by Monalisa Perez while recording a stunt for YouTube.

Pedro died on the scene and Monalisa was arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter.

Here are a few things you need know about Pedro Ruiz, Monalisa Perez and the YouTube stunt that went fatally wrong.

Pedro Ruiz, 22, died after his 7-months pregnant girlfriend accidently shot him while filming a YouTube stunt.

Around 6:30 p.m. in rural Halstad, Minnesota on Monday (Jun. 26), a call was placed to the Norman County Sheriff’s Office. According to the police report, Monalisa Perez had accidently shot her boyfriend, Pedro Ruiz, in the chest while filming a stunt for YouTube.

Pedro was holding a 1.5-inch encyclopedia in front of him, hoping the book would stop the bullet. Standing nearly a foot away from him, Monalisa pulled the trigger. However, the stunt went tragically wrong.

First responders attempted to save the 22-year-old’s life, however, he died on the scene while waiting on a helicopter.

A Desert Eagle. 50 caliber pistol, a powerful handgun, was found on the scene. The shooting was captured on two cameras and police have confiscated the footage as evidence. Police say they will not release the footage.

Monalisa, currently seven months pregnant, was initially charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. She was released on $7,000 bond on Wednesday (Jun. 28) and was charged with second-degree manslaughter, a charge with a 10-year maximum prison sentence, a fine up to $20,000, or both. Her next court appearance in July 5th.

Police also say the couple’s 3-year-old daughter witnessed the shooting.

Pedro had been eager to perform the dangerous stunt in order to go viral and gain social media fame.

According to family members, the couple of six years was seeking fame from their YouTube videos. Hoping to achieve such notoriety, Pedro had been wanting to do this particular stunt for a while.

Pedro’s aunt, Claudia Ruiz told Valley News Live:

“He had told me about an idea. I said, don’t do it, don’t do it. Why are you going to use a gun? Why? ‘Because, we want more viewers. We want to get famous.’”

Hours before Pedro’s death, Monalisa teased the stunt on Twitter, noting that it was all Pedro’s idea, not hers.

With one camera on the back of a parked car and another on a ladder, Monalisa stood about a foot away from her boyfriend and pulled the trigger as he held a thick encyclopedia. The bullet went through the book and into Pedro’s chest.

Monalisa told authorities that she was hesitant to do the stunt, but was convinced after Pedro showed her a book that a bullet was unable to fully penetrate when he attempted the stunt for himself.

However, a family posted on Facebook that the previous attempt was much different than what Pedro and Monalisa did.

“He sent me a snapchat shooting a bookshelf of encyclopedias and said lets see how many books it would go through … it didn’t make it past the first book … but its different if you have 20 books stacked than just 1, dammit man i can’t believe it.”

Prior to the shooting, with the exception of one, the couple’s 18 posted YouTube videos only had between 200 and 3,000 views each.

Sadly, Pedro’s name did make headlines at the expense of his life. The viral news of his death has caused their YouTube video views to increase considerably, with their most recent post (uploaded hours before Pedro’s death) currently with over 1.1 million views.

The couple initially posted harmless family vlogs, but Pedro wanted to branch out on his own with more adventurous videos.

The couple has posted joint videos on Monalisa’s YouTube account, La MonaLisa, since March. The channel was meant to broadcast the couple’s daily lives.

Monalisa wrote on the channel’s about section:

“Welcome to our channel loves!! Our Vlogs will show you the real life of a young couple who happen to be teen parents. From highs to lows. Achievements to struggles. Join the fun, Follow our journey!”

A few of the videos posted captured the family going to the grocery story, revealing the gender of their baby, and pulling innocent pranks like Monalisa giving Pedro a doughnut topped with baby powder rather than powdered sugar.

However, some of the video showcased Pedro’s adventurous side such as climbing trees and performing stunts and pranks. Because of this, the couple was planning to branch out and have separate channels.

“We are In the process of making pedro a YouTube channel oh man is it going to be sweet! Lol. All the crazy stuff will be on his channel and mine will be our family life!!!!”

Their final video together, posted hours before Pedro’s death, was titled “Doing Scary Stunts at the Fair.” It was shot at a local fair the two attended with their 3-year-old daughter.

“Of course Pedro would be the one to try stupid things;),” Monalisa wrote when she shared the video on Facebook.

In the same video, the couple discussed internet fame and growing their number of subscribers. “Imagine when we have 300,000 subscribers,” Monalisa dreamed. “I told them, the bigger we get, I’ll be throwing parties,” Pedro added.

Family members say Pedro had been a thrill-seeker most of his life.

Pedro was raised by his aunt, Lisa Primeau, after his mother died when he was just 5, and he had a difficult relationship with his father. Primeau told the Star Tribune Pedro was always the family’s daredevil.

“We called him our little daredevil,” she said. Even as a child, he was “putting a dangerous twist on everything he did [like] jumping into the swimming pool from the top of the house, no hesitation. He was a crazy driver with go-carts.”

Primeau also added that Pedro liked and owned many guns.

Sharing a daughter and expecting a son, Pedro and Monalisa were deeply in love and excited to grow their family.

By all accounts, the young couple were very much in love and had a simple life together.

They have been together for six years, had 3-year-old daughter named Aaliyah, and Monalisa is pregnant with the couple’s second child, a boy, who the couple decided to name Pedro as well.

Pedro was the provider for his growing family. He worked as an engineer for BNSF Railway and was studying to be a foreman.

“I wish they wouldn’t have done it. I wish he would’ve just done another prank. He was so young,” he’s aunt Claudia Ruiz said. “He had so much going for himself.”

Monalisa is a stay-at-home mom, but was growing her social media presence as a “family vlogger.” She also sold beauty, fitness, and health products online.

The family moved from their Fargo, North Dakota apartment to their house in rural Minnesota in December 2016. They were excited to grow their family and what the future held for them.

Monalisa wrote in an October post of a photo with her daughter:

“These are the moments I live for. My goal is to be able to be a stay at home family, enjoying every little moment, going on adventures, and being financially content! And I won’t stop until my dream becomes a reality!!! If you can dream it, you can achieve it. So what’s stopping you from joining my team and having a life you WANT!?”

“They were in love, they loved each other,” Pedro’s aunt Claudia Ruiz told Valley News Live. She added Pedro would do anything for Monalisa and Monalisa would do anything for Pedro. The Ruiz family say they are supporting Monalisa through this difficult time.

Monalisa is expected to give birth in September.

Eric Benét Claps Back at JAY-Z on Twitter for “4:44” Diss

JAY-Z’s latest album 4:44 is today’s hottest topic in entertainment news. Fans are loving the personal Tidal/Sprint exclusive, while others are fiercely analyzing it as a response to Beyoncé’s Lemonade.

However, taking a note out of Taylor Swift’s book, there’s one person who would like to be excluded from the narrative.

In the album’s opening track, “Kill Jay-Z,” the rapper admits to cheating on his wife, Beyoncé. Jay compares his situation to musician Eric Benét, who cheated on ex-wife Halle Berry and lost her because of it.

“You almost went Eric Benét / Let the baddest girl in the world get away / I don’t even know what else to say / N*gga, never go Eric Benét.”

Benét married Berry in 2001, but separated of after two years after he was caught cheating on the Oscar-winning actress. Their divorce was finalized in 2005.

Now happily married and a father of two, Benét has responded to Jay’s diss.

Benét admitted to People magazine in 2005 that he was unfaithful to Berry, but that he never had sex with any other woman. He said his brief stint in rehab for sex addiction (at the suggestion of Berry’s mother) was a last-ditch effort to save his marriage.

“We all know I cheated. It was out there. [But] I never did have sexual intercourse with anyone while I was with Halle…

“I’m not a sex addict. I wanted to save my marriage and do anything necessary to do that. I went [to rehab] and heard other people’s stories and realized this is really not my struggle.”

Benét married Manuela Testolini (Prince’s ex-wife) in 2011 and the couple have two daughters.

How to Stream & Listen to JAY-Z’s New “4:44” Album

Hov is officially back!

Hot on the heels of his induction into the songwriter’s hall of fame, JAY-Z has returned with his highly-anticipated 13th studio album 4:44, much to the delight of the internet. But how can you listen to it? What options do you have to stream it online? Keep reading to find out!

According to Tidal.com, the album is a Tidal exclusive, meaning that it is only available to stream via that platform, which is owned by JAY-Z, so as of right now, the easiest way to listen to 4:44 is through Tidal.

But it won’t always be like that. Variety reports that after a week of streaming exclusively on Tidal, the album will eventually be released on other streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music. And, if you’re reading this, you probably want to listen to it not now, but RIGHT now.

If you’re a Tidal member already, then you can just fire up the app and get to listening. But if you’re not, then, sucks to be you, because thanks to Tidal’s new deal with Sprint — which purchased a 33 percent stake in the service earlier this year AND gave them a $75 million budget for exclusives as part of its $200 million investment — only Sprint subscribers are able to sign up for Tidal and obtain access to the album for the time being.

During 4:44‘s promotion, each trailer noted that the new album would only be available via sprint.tidal.com, which means that it’s currently only available to pre-existing subscribers of Tidal and Sprint users. If you don’t have Sprint and failed to subscribe to Tidal before June 26th, then unfortunately, you will NOT be able to stream it through Tidal.

In other words, you can sign up for Tidal and listen to everything in their library EXCEPT for 4:44. So, for those of you who like to try and “game the system” by signing up for a 30-day trial just to cancel on the 30th day, you won’t be able to do this to listen to 4:44.

Go on ahead and try to sign up for an account (which you’ll be able to do), then try to stream 4:44, and you’ll be presented with the following message:

So… the question remains, HOW THE HELL DO I LISTEN TO 4:44?!? Well, if you’re neither a subscriber of Tidal nor Sprint, then you’re in luck! But only for today (Fri, Jun. 30).

For the next 24 hours, fans can stream the album for free via iHeartRadio. As of 12:01 a.m. EST, 4:44 will air in its entirety across iHeartRadio’s 160 Pop, Rhythm and Urban radio stations throughout the country.

The album, along with commentary from the Hip Hop mogul, will continue to play throughout the day on iHeartRadio’s Rhythm and Urban stations until July 1st at midnight. And if iHeartRadio isn’t available in your market (CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT), you can listen to the album via their website, iHeart.com.

“This is a perfect storm of sharing music with fans,” JAY-Z said in a statement. “Sprint allows for and promotes creative freedom. Every artist strives for support of their vision, and I have that in not just a partnership with Sprint but also in iHeart.”

Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure said in another statement, “We’re giving customers an incredible opportunity to be among the first to experience [Jay’s] new album 4:44. Our loyal, existing customers, and customers who switch to Sprint, can experience the album exclusively, plus access a complimentary six-month trial of TIDAL HiFi, giving them access to content they can’t get anywhere else.”

4:44, which was produced entirely by No I.D., marks JAY-Z’s first album release since 2013’s Magna Carta Holy Grail. The new album features 10 tracks with appearances by his wife Beyoncé (“Family Feud”), Frank Ocean (“Caught Their Eyes”), Damian Marley (“Bam”), Kim Burrell (“4:44”), The-Dream (“Marcy Me”), his mother Gloria Carter (“Smile”) and even his 5-year-old daughter Blue Ivy (“Legacy”).

The 35-minute album also comes with an animated visual directed by JAY-Z and Mark Romanek called “The Story of O.J.”

Check out the full tracklisting for 4:44 below:

From Boy Toys to Swingers Parties, Ladies of Potomac Throws Class Out the Window in RHOP Reunion Trailer

Even though many of us still haven’t recovered from the last one, another Real Housewives reunion is on its way. And based on the trailer that just dropped, the ladies of Potomac left their much-talked about class at home to hash out all the drama from season 2.

Season 2 of The Real Housewives of Potomac was only 12 episodes, but it was jam-packed with drama and shade. Gizelle Bryant, Robyn Dixon, Karen Huger, Charrisse Jackson-Jordan, Monique Samuels, and Ashley Darby all gathered for a two-part reunion and it doesn’t look like any fences were mended. In fact, some friendships may be worse off than before.

The greatest point of tension seems to be from the mother hens of the group, Karen and Charrisse. The two had an established friendship prior to the show, but now each woman is fighting the be the “Grand Dame of Potomac.” Things get real nasty when marriages and infidelity comes up.

Karen: “You’ve been dating three men and it don’t look good in the street of Potomac.”

Charrisse: “People say you have a boyfriend. Do I talk about that? Blue Eyes or whatever his name is?”

Karen: “You’re a f**king liar!”

Charrisse is currently separated and seeking a divorce from NBA/college basketball coach Eddie Jordan. Meanwhile, Karen has been married to, as she calls him, the “Black Bill Gates” Raymond Huger for 20 years. However, many of the ladies wondered if the couple was secretly having financial issues this season.

Ashley, whose marriage is definitely on the rocks, even accuses Charrisse of throwing swinger parties: “I did hear you used to have some interesting parties Charisse. And apparently it didn’t stay platonic.”

Ugh! Not another sex dungeon controversy?!?

Other highlights from the trailer include: Gizelle and Monique continuing to trade cheap shots at each other, Robyn shutting down Ashley for meddling in her unconventional relationship with live-in-ex-husband Juan Dixon, Juan attempting to explain cheating rumors, and Ashley making an announcement about her marriage.

The Real Housewives of Potomac Season 2 finale airs July 2nd. Part one of the juicy reunion airs July 9th on Bravo.

Police Find Venus Williams at Fault for Fatal Car Crash

Tennis champion Venus Williams has been found at fault of a car crash that ultimately lead to a 78-year-old’s death.

On Thursday (Jun. 29), Palm Beach Gardens, Florida police announced that Venus was at fault of a June 9th car accident that sent a 78-year-old man to ICU after suffering a severe head trauma. The man died 14 days later. Police have concluded Venus was “at fault for violating the right of way of [the other driver].”

Linda Barson, the victim’s wife and driver of the vehicle, suffered broken bones and other injuries.

The accident occurred at a major intersection in Palm Beach Gardens on June 9th. According to the police report, Venus darted into the intersection to beat a changing light, but was left exposed due to a traffic backup. The driver of the other vehicle stated she was unable to stop and T-boned Venus’ SUV. The police report did not indicate how fast Barson was going at the point of impact

TMZ obtained the police report and posted a diagram of the accident.

Through her attorney, Malcolm Cunningham, Venus expressed her condolences to the family and gave more insight into the tragic matter. The statement reads:

“Ms. Williams entered the intersection on a green light. The police report estimates that Ms. Williams was traveling at 5 mph when Mrs. Barson crashed into her. Authorities did not issue Ms. Williams with any citations or traffic violations.

“This is an unfortunate accident and Venus expresses her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one.”

It is currently unclear if the 7-time Grand Slam champion will face any charges or citations. Police say it does not appear she was under the influence or distracted by an electronic device at the time of the accident.
