Two people were killed and four others were injured Tuesday (Apr. 20) in a shooting on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The suspected shooter, believed to be a student, is in police custody, WSOC reports.

The school’s alert system warned students on Twitter that reports of shots fired began just before 6 p.m. Tuesday.

“Run, Hide, Fight. Secure yourself immediately,” UNCC officials tweeted.

According to local media, the shooting occurred near UNCC’s Kennedy Hall. Video footage shared on social media shows police running by students and telling them to put their hands up.

The campus was placed on lockdown immediately after the shooting.

Another video posted on social media shows the shooter being taken away by police.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates…

Fantasia Confirms Song With Brandy & Jazmine Sullivan Will Be on Her New Album

New music is on the way from Fantasia, Brandy and Jazmine Sullivan. And, guess what? it’s all going to be on one album!

Fantasia is gearing up for the release of her upcoming single, “Enough.”

When she hopped on Instagram Live to talk with fans about the single, IG user @Team_Fantasia got the singer to share a few details about her forthcoming album, and that’s when she dropped Brandy and Sullivan’s names.

Tasia explained that she will collaborate with the two amazing vocalists and that she “had to” get them on the album.

“They are both my favorites. I turn into a little groupie when I see Jazmine. I love her and I love Bran,” she said.

And as an independent artist now, Tasia’s able to do what she wants and felt she could musically explore with Brandy and Sullivan.

“I wanted to kind of reach back and touch some different eras when it came to that girl group. I was like, ‘Wouldn’t it be dope if we had a girl group where it was Jazmine, Fantasia, and Brandy?’ Let’s just put it on an album.”

Fantasia said that she also collaborated with Meghan Trainor on the project.

There’s no official date for the upcoming album, but it sounds like we’ll be in for a treat. It will be Fantasia’s seventh album and her first non-holiday album since 2016.

“Enough,” the album’s lead single, will drop this Friday (May 3).

“Empire” Renewed for Season 6, Fox Says “No Plans” for Jussie Smollett to Return

Fox has announced that they are renewing Empire for Season 6, but Jussie Smollett won’t be coming back to the show next season … at least not at first.

Via Entertainment Weekly:

“By mutual agreement, the studio has negotiated an extension to Jussie Smollett’s option for season 6, but at this time there are no plans for the character of Jamal to return to Empire,” Fox Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV said in a statement.

Still one of the network’s signature and highest-rated series, Empire was experiencing a bit of a creative rebound when the news shifted to Smollett, who, back in January, claimed to be the victim of a racial and homophobic attack.

The next few months featured numerous twists and turns to the case, with Smollett being arrested for filing a false police report, only for the charges to eventually be dropped.

During all of this, Fox made the decision to remove from Smollett from the final two episodes of season 5. In what now looks to officially be Smollett’s swan song, his character Jamal was given a possible happy ending with his wedding to Kai.

If it was up to his castmates, then Smollett would return. Empire stars Terrence Howard, Taraji P Henson, Bryshere Y. Gray, Trai Byers, Gabourey Sidibe, and Nicole Ari Parker recently penned a letter to Fox and the show’s creative team asking that their costar be reinstated.

“More than ever, we must stand together as a family,” they wrote. “A family is there for us in good times and bad.”

The “Empire” Season 5 finale airs Wednesday night (May 1).

Soulja Boy Sentenced to 240 Days in Jail for Violating Probation

Soulja Boy will spend the next 8 months behind bars after a judge ordered him to serve jail time for violating his probation.

Soulja appeared in court Tuesday (Apr. 30) and a judge determined that he violated his probation by getting caught with gun ammo at his home during a police raid.

The judge reportedly told Soulja he considered giving him two years in state prison, but decided to go easy on him, acknowledging that he’s missed out on business opportunities while behind bars.

As punishment for not sticking to the terms of his probation, the judge sentenced him to 240 days in jail and 265 days of community service once he gets out. He’ll get credit for time served.

Soulja was arrested earlier this month and held without bail after a judge said he failed to complete his court-ordered community service and conspired to falsify evidence that showed that he had completed it.

On top of that, his house in Agoura Hills, California was raided by police in February to investigate a claim by an ex-girlfriend that he’d tied her up and held her hostage in his garage.

During the raid, police found ammo, which was bad news because Soulja’s currently on probation for a 2014 weapons case and isn’t allowed to have guns or ammunition in his possession.

Unless something changes (sometimes California inmates are released early due to overcrowding), Soulja will be released sometime in December 2019.

Kandi Confirms She Will Leave RHOA If Phaedra Comes Back: “I Just Won’t Be A Part of That”

The Real Housewives of Atlanta may have one less housewife for season 12. Kandi Burruss remains adamant that she will leave the show if her ex-buddy returns.

Burruss appeared on People Now on Monday (Apr. 29) and gave a flat out “No” when asked if she’d be okay if Phaedra Parks came back to the RHOA.

“For me, it’s like, if that’s what they want to do, that’s fine. But I just won’t be a part of that,” she said.

Kandi went on to explain that she’d be glad to step away from RHOA if producers really want Phaedra for another season.

“I don’t have problem with her being a part [of the show], I just don’t want us to have to deal with each other,” she said. “I would take my break and let her do it if that’s what it is. It’s no big deal.”

As we recently reported, rumors suggest Phaedra is in talks to rejoin the show after having her peach snatched once season 10 wrapped.

Kandi and Phaedra were once close reality show friends, but fell out after Phaedra admitted to lying on her and spreading a rumor that Kandi and husband, Todd Tucker, had attempted to date rape fellow housewife Porsha Williams in their “sex dungeon.”

NeNe Leakes is also reportedly lobbying for Phaedra to return in order to have an ally against returning housewife Kenya Moore.

Kandi also let it be known on People Now that she’s also not checking for NeNe at the moment.

“She’s the last person I look at to validate me,” she said when referencing the moment NeNe claimed Kandi was “not important” during the season 11 reunion. “What [NeNe] says is not really important to me, either.”

Kandi Burruss joined The Real Housewives of Atlanta in season two (2009). Would you miss Kandi if she were to leave the show because of Phaedra?

Tech Company Requests “Preferably Caucasian” Candidates in Racist Online Job Listing on LinkedIn

An IT company is doing serious damage control after one of their online applications requested “preferably Caucasian” applicants.

Cynet Systems faced heavy backlash in recent days after an online application for a pharmaceutical accounts manager position in Tampa, Florida went viral for encouraging white people to apply.

The job description read the employer was seeking a “preferably Caucasian” candidate “who can get more opportunities and build the account.”

Employment discrimination based on age, race, skin color, or ethnicity is illegal … unless there is a “bona fide occupational qualification” that is essential to the company’s central mission. Although I doubt that extremely rare exception applies to a Florida IT company.

Social media was quick to call out Cynet Systems for the racist posting and advised the Virginia-based company to take diversity more seriously.

Cynet, who’s owners are Indian-American, initially apologized for the post in a simple tweet on Sunday.

The company released an official statement apologizing for the incident on Monday and blamed the posting on employees, who have since been fired due to the discriminatory language.

The statement read in part:

“We understand why some may been upset seeing this listing, because we ere too. It is a long-standing policy for our company to refuse any request to list jobs only seeking candidates of any specific ethnicity, gender, or other inappropriate restrictions.”

The statement goes on to boast about Cynet’s commitment to diversity with a “60% minority” workforce and claim they are taking measures to ensure “offensive or outside-of-policy ads” aren’t published online in the future.

Cynet’s racist online job posting comes days after Uber had to apologize for a tweet using the N-word. The post was a response to an internet troll who was using the slur as their Twitter username and then tweeted at Uber’s support account, apparently in a deliberate attempt to get Uber to tweet the word.

John Singleton’s Family Says They’re Taking Him Off Life Support Today

There were a number of conflicting reports earlier regarding John Singleton’s health, but his family just released a statement announcing that they plan to take the legendary film director off life support sometime today (Mon, Apr. 28).

“It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today,” the Singleton family said. “This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors.”

The statement goes on to say that John “quietly struggled with hypertensions. More than 40% of African-American men and women have high blood pressure, which also develops earlier in life and is usually more servere.”

The devastating news comes a little over a week after it was revealed Single had suffered a stroke while hospitalized after complaining about pain in his leg following a flight from Costa Rica.

Read the family’s lengthy statement in its entirety below:

It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today. This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors.

John Singleton is a prolific, ground-breaking director who changed the game and opened doors in Hollywood, a world that was just a few miles away, yet worlds away, from the neighborhood in which he grew up.

John grew up in South Central L.A with a love of cinema that showed itself early on. He went on to become one of the most lauded graduates of the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Within months of graduating, John returned to South Central to shoot his debut feature, Boyz N the Hood. The movie, which was unusually shot in sequence, masterfully captured a story of friendship, youth and the peril of hard choices in a community marred by gang violence. The film earned special honors at its debut at Cannes and Singleton went onto become the youngest director and first African-American writer-director nominated for the Academy Award. Two decades later, the film was placed in the Library of Congress, a marker of its cultural and historical significance.

John loved nothing more than giving opportunities to new talent and his films came to be known for career -making roles with actors who the industry would come to embrace; talents such as Tupac Shakur, Regina King, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Ice Cube, Tyrese and Taraji P. Henson.

Singleton’s work spanned genres and showcased his curiosity and creativity: the remake of Shaft, was a homage to his mentor, Gordon Parks. He also made historical films such as Rosewood and action films such as 2 Fast 2 Furious. Films like Baby Boy and Four Brothers were prescient in the questions they posed about men and the crisis in American masculinity. As streaming platforms created new opportunities in television, Singleton took his talents to shows such as Billions, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and Empire. Most recently, he co-created and executive produced the current FX hit drama series Snowfall, in which he engaged such writing talents as Walter Mosley.

John was such a supernova in his youth that we forget that he was only beginning to fully assert his gifts as a director. Kurosawa was 52 when he directed High Low. Hitchcock was 56 when he directed To Catch a Thief. As much as we will treasure his body of work, we were looking forward to the films John would have made in the years ahead.

In his private life, John is a loving and supporting father, son, brother, and friend who believed in higher education, black culture, old school music and the power of film.

John’s confidence in his place in Hollywood was only matched for his passion for the sea. John kayaked in Marina Del Rey every morning. His greatest joy, when not on set, was sailing his boat, J’s Dream, up and down the Pacific Coast. The American writer Willa Cather once said, “There are some things you learn best in calm, and some in the storm.” We who have grown up with John, made movies with him, sailed with John and laughed with John, know the universe of calm and creativity he created for so many. Now in the wake of his death, we must navigate the storm without him. It is, for us, heartbreaking.

Like many African Americans, Singleton quietly struggled with hypertension. More than 40% of African American men and women have high blood pressure, which also develops earlier in life and is usually more severe. His family wants to share the message with all to please recognize the symptoms by going toHeart.org

We are grateful to his fans, friends and colleagues for the outpour of love and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. We want to thank all the doctors at Cedars Sinai for the impeccable care he received.

John Daniel Singleton will be survived by his extraordinary mother, Sheila Ward, his father, Danny Singleton and his children Justice, Maasai, Hadar, Cleopatra, Selenesol, Isis, and Seven.

Details about memorial services will be provided at a later date.
