GameSpot's The Lobby - Does Sony need a PlayStation 4.5? video - CNET
[MUSIC] Right now we're going to talk about the Playstation. Let's have a chat about the Playstation- A chin wag. 4. A chin wag if you will. [LAUGH] [UNKNOWN] About the Playstation 4.5. Our good friend over at Kotaku, Patrick Klepek, broke a story last week saying that there was word basically around GDC And they had a bunch of sources, unknown sources that said there was an upgrade coming to the Playstation four or upgraded version of the Playstation four which was going to support, have a meteor GP units and that would probably support 4k resolution. That this had probably some sort of tie in into the abilities of the restrictions around the PlayStation VR. And since then there's been Wall Street Journal reports basically saying the same, sort of corroborating that. It's so funny, the original news piece spread this had Information is kind of like chasm McDonald's from Taco UK had just overheard two people in line as well at GDC literally talking about this Playstation 4.5, whether that's a code name or not. And how it's going to fit into Sony's plans. First of all, initial reaction to this, Peter, what do you think? It's been a long time since we've seen a console have a. An iteration like, I can really think of the 32 exes, like the latest one I can think of. Is it a good idea, is it strange? It's strange, but it's a good idea. I mean I think, from what everyone is saying right now, it's not going to impact current Playstation 4. There are no plans for exclusive games based on the current rumors, it's For cross compatibility. While I can understand some people might feel slighted like what the hell. I bought an old PS4 now I have to buy a new one if I wanna have the best graphics that Playstation four can do. Welcome to PC ownership. Yeah, welcome to- yeah exactly. And also you had a Playstation four for a while. And you know what, you sold the same games and if visuals are that important that's your imperative. Yeah To have to pay for it, and I don't think it's a bad thing. Do you think they need us? Because you know, we're talking about, they like to be able to say, this is console generation, we're run for ten years. What are we, three and a half, four years in at the moment? Playstation 4 and XBox One are already kind of, fogging a little bit. Do you think Playstation 4 needs this? I do. I do. I think if you look at TVs right now. Alright everything in a freaking 4k TV. The thing is, there's no way they're going to be able to get a decent price console that does 4k gaming. I mean that's literally like four times the resolution of 1080, right? In a range. Not quite. It's less than that but essentially Like for video, video is a very important part of Playstation and like, what is going on here? The PS5 had better be able to fly says Samuel Graham. [LAUGH] I hate your creepy face. Thank you. That's the benefit of the [UNKNOWN]. Yeah I mean look, I don't know, I don't understand that why people would have an issue here, unless they feel salty about spending money. But, I think it really comes to being for capable for video more than anything else. Yeah. My question has caught on this. Cuz I end this I've obtained recently Quantum Break and we'll get to Xbox one in a little while. Apparently that game runs around 720. Danny it's temporal 1080p. They take four 720p frames and [INAUDIBLE]. But it's the best game I've seen on an Xbox one. What? So resolution to me. [INAUDIBLE] overdrive man. Okay, yeah, I can't even explain it actually. A good contrast makes a real pop. Right. And, but then like I've never really understood a lot of the heat behind this fixation, specifically resolution where you look at you're going to have a higher resolution game it looks like a **** **** because of the other effects they're working on. What do you think about this? Are you a Playstation 4 owner?>> Yeah. If it's gonna help the VR experience and, cuz the Playstation VR I think like most people, well it's the most affordable one at this point to optionally, not factoring in if you need a new console and the Move controllers and everything, which I'm excited for PS VR just because I'd like to see, that might be, extensively the first one I have in my living room If it can help in that respect, then I'm on board for it. I don't feel slighted at all. Like one of my roommates was saying he did at first, but then I was like well you had, what, three years of that, I think it was three years, with a PS4. That was an investment, and you've had three years of a lot of good games, You're not There are a bunch of games that you got to play in that time period, and like I said there's not gonna be any exclusives on the 4.5 or whatever they end up calling it, its gonna be out.>> Hasn't this existed in handheld gaming as well for years, like every time there's a new revision of the DS. Sometimes they do make games, which Sony work on, 3DS or whatever Like. We saw Nintendo do that with Hyrule Warrior Legends on 3DS. Right. Or I'm sorry, Xenoblade Chronicles was exclusive to New 3DS, but then recently they spit out Hyrule Warriors Legends and that was not exclusive. And people were kind of upset with how it ran on the regular 3DS. But Internal hardware is generally pretty under powered anyway, especially for a port of a game from an HD [UNKNOWN]. Do you see Sony doing something like if you trade in your old Playstation 4, we'll give you an upgrade for like $150 or something. I see GameStop doing that. Right. I don't see Sony Caring one way or the other. You don't think that PR might lower the amount they might spend and just say right [INAUDIBLE] cause if it is literally just a GPU upgrade, I mean wouldn't the wonderful world of the internet be like well if it's only one part of the machine? Console gaming is the weirdest sector of the electronics market in the world. Everything else has so many different variants and skews and this that and the other. I think You know, we're used to that in everything but consoles. Hm. I think people are going to just understand and get used to it. Maybe they'll cry in the beginning. But I don't think Sony is facing an uphill battle here. I think, yeah. Maybe it'll be a little blip on the radar, people who are upset. But that will go away pretty fast. All right. Thank you both for telling me your thoughts about the Playstation 4.5. Little bit of a shift of gears here. It's interesting we're talking about the PlayStation 4 having an upgrade, because it is the more powerful. And the console of the two, those are currently I guess fighting with each other at the moment, has sort of the sort of superiority when it comes to the graphic processing. [MUSIC]

I can see the cobblestones, scenery in the distance, bunch of people below, umbrellas, and walking around and touring the area. Okay, we're gonna try a game called Fragments on the hollow lens right now. Tap to start. There's a person standing in the room. He's talking to me. As I walk around the room he's turning towards me. He wants me to log into Holo call, which is some kind of communication. Okay, there's a woman sitting on the couch. Another one over there talking about whoa. Actor Shawn Ashmore feels weird about you killing his character in 'Quantum Break' video - CNET
[MUSIC] I mean, I got involved with Quantum Break kind of like a lot of great opportunities in my career. I just got a call from my agent saying, hey, Microsoft and Xbox are Starting this new IP, and they're interested in talking to you about it. And Remedy Entertainment's gonna be involved. And I know Remedy, I love Remedy games. I beat Max Payne on the set of X-Men 2. So this short story with Quantum Break, it's basically about a time travel experiment that goes awry. And Jack Joyce our lead character and Paul Serene, who is their best friend in the beginning basically gain these utilities through this experiment going army, and really what the game is about is stopping the end of time. So, there's these huge stinks, it's a science fiction action adventure shooter. Along with an incredibly in-depth live action in gameshow. So this was a totally different experience and the motion cap process is in one way which is really challenging, because you're working in an environment were nothing. I mean, I'm sure everybody seen it, now you wear those suits. And you have a head cam, and you're in a sort of a blank, empty warehouse. And it's just actors and a few basic props, and that's it. For me, what I care about, the story is huge and exciting, but there is real, relatable drama. To me, the idea of two friends becoming the worst of enemies is something that I want To explore and know about that. That's like just good drama. So when you put it in the mix of this gigantic science fiction adventure, I think that's something people are going to really enjoy. [SOUND]
