New Battlefield confirmed for 2016 release

EA has once again confirmed that a new entry in the Battlefield series will ship in 2016.

During a recent investor call, chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen was asked about key future titles for the company.

"What we've said is that our intention over the next couple of years is to have a first-person shooter as one of the core titles," he replied. "This year it's Star Wars: Battlefront. Next year, it's another Battlefield title."

EA CEO Andrew Wilson previously discussed a new Battlefield in October 2014: "Battlefield 4 continues to add new players and engage existing fans a year after launch," he said.

"As a result of the extended services and content updates that we provide, it's clear that players want to experience the games we're delivering for longer periods of time. Looking into next year, we will ensure that our players have enough time between releases to fully explore the depth and innovation in our shooter titles."

A month later it was teased that the Battlefield series will return to "military-style game" and is already shaping up to be a "fun, new Battlefield."

Star Wars: Battlefront is being developed by DICE, the team responsible for the core entries in the Battlefield series.

During the earnings call, Electronic Arts COO Peter Moore also revealed that Star Wars Battlefront is enjoying "extremely strong preorders," but didn't share any specific numbers.

Continuing, Moore said the title's showing at Gamescom 2015 will be a "pivotal" moment and EA expects to "see a tremendous response" from it.

EA expects a strong sales performance from Battlefront, and has predicted it will sell 9-10 million units by March 31, 2016.

Battlefront launches on November 17 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. This is just a few weeks before J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" hits theaters. EA has told fans not to worry about the game being delayed.

All Battlefront purchasers will receive a free expansion called The Battle of Jakku, which is based on the upcoming movie.

GTA 5 becomes an RPG with this new mod

Grand Theft Auto V is a huge, sprawling, entertaining action game, but it does not have very many RPG elements. One modder has decided to change that, and is creating a mod that turns GTA V into a role-playing game.

User LogicSpawn is working the mod, which is called GTA V: RPG, and the modder's adding skill trees, looting systems, and a whole bunch of other tweaks to the game. This includes a system of relationships with characters in the game. You'll be able to talk to and befriend NPCs, who can affect the way the game plays out. You can watch the trailer for the mod below (warning: some strong language).

LogicSpawn has also dramatically overhauled GTA V's skills. In the normal game, you build up better driving, flying, or shooting abilities simply by playing the game. You don't have any choice over what skills you have. LogicSpawn is adding a full ability tree, complete with different skills for your character and your vehicles.

The modder is working on making this mod compatible with traditional GTA V so that you can play through the normal story mode with all of the mod's changes and features.

I immediately appreciated LogicSpawn's addition of XP and loot pop-ups in the HUD. It's nice seeing more clearly when you're increasing levels and picking up ammo or money.

GTA V: RPG is available now to download from the modder's website. As always, be cautious downloading, as other mods have been reported as containing malware.

It's the latest in an increasing number of awesome mods, including a mod that lets you drive around the car from the "Knight Rider" TV series. The original game was pretty good, too -- you can read our review of normal GTA V, which GameSpot critic Carolyn Petit thought was terrific.

PS4's celebrity-led horror game Until Dawn goes gold

Until Dawn, the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive horror game, has gone gold. Developer Supermassive Games announced the news on Friday. The game is scheduled to launch on August 25.

"Going gold" means development has finished, and all that's left to do is send the game to factories for mass production or to the PlayStation Network to beam up to your PS4.

The game features the voice and likenesses of a handful of celebrity actors, including Hayden Panettiere (Heroes, A Bug's Life), Rami Malek (Need for Speed, Night at the Museum),and Peter Stormare (Fargo, The Big Lebowski).

Until Dawn has been in development for a long time and has even changed platforms. The game, which was previously in development for PlayStation 3 with Move support before shifting to PS4, follows a group of eight friends who take what they think will be a fun trip to a cabin in the mountains. Obviously things don't go as planned and they must fight to survive...until dawn.

GameSpot recently played a portion of Until Dawn and we were intrigued by what we saw.

"Although I was initially doubtful about how much I'd enjoy Until Dawn's campy dialogue and B-grade horror film idiosyncrasies, when my time was up with the game I found it difficult to leave the characters behind, and the story hanging," editor Zorine Te wrote in her preview.

Birdman’s Angie Martinez Interview Shows He’s Having Trouble Accepting the Seriousness of His Feud with Lil Wayne

birdman-lil-wayne

Birdman thinks the media is making his issues with Lil Wayne bigger than what they really are.

Despite spending 48 hours in Miami with Power 105.1 host Angie Martinez for an exclusive interview, Birdman failed to reveal hardly anything about his current feud and legal battle with Lil Wayne.

For the majority of the interview, Birdman avoided answering most of Angie’s questions and instead talked about his love for his son Wayne and how much he supports him, despite Wayne’s claims that Birdman is holding him prisoner in his contract with Cash Money and owes him millions of dollars.

According to Birdman, he and Wayne still talk on a regular basis and Wayne hasn’t verbally told him he wants out of his deal. He also said that Drake and Nicki aren’t going anywhere and denied reports he threw a drink at Wayne during a club appearance or plotted along with Young Thug to have him killed.

Check out the full interview below:

Drake’s Reference Tracks from Alleged Ghostwriter Quentin Miller

drake-quentin-miller

Ever since Meek Mill called Drake out for using “ghostwriters” (which is something literally all rappers do, including Meek Mill), folks have been looking for ways to question Drake’s credibility as a rapper.

Enter Funkmaster Flex, who added tons of fuel to the fire last week by releasing a reference track for Drake’s 10 Bands from the man believed to be Drake’s ghostwriter Quentin Miller.

Funk Flex followed up Thursday (Jul 30) by dropping THREE more reference tracks from Miller, this time for “Know Yourself” (which shows up in that awful Meek Mill diss track), “Used To” and “R.I.C.O.,” Drake’s collaboration with Meek Mill, which Meek said was ghostwritten by Miller in his rant against Drake.

Listen here:

Quentin has said on Tumblr that he is “not and never will be a ‘ghostwriter’ for Drake.”

“I’m proud to say that we’ve collaborated,” he continued, “but I could never take credit for anything other than the few songs we worked on together.”

Quentin may not have written Drake’s lyrics, but based on the reference tracks, it does sound like he essentially laid the foundation for the songs (the hook, the composition, etc). Drake just added his “Midas touch.”

The reference tracks honestly sound like nothing more than two artists collaborating with each other.

A lot of folks with the “Drake uses ghostwriters” argument seem to believe that this man actually has people write all of his lyrics for him and he just hops on the mic and raps them. That is the furthest from the truth.

People tend to forget that Drake is a songwriter and has written hits for other artists. Hell, he could have helped Kendrick Lamar write his verse on Poetic Justice for all we know. And Kendrick could have helped him on his as well.

The point is, Meek Mill got himself into a mess by accusing Drake of having someone else write his lyrics, and all he’s doing right now is proving that he probably needs to use more ghostwriters himself.

Like the old saying goes, “Don’t start what you can’t finish.”

Drake Amused by Meek Mill’s Poor Attempt at a Diss Track

drake-laughing-meek-mill-diss

Not too long after Meek Mill released “Wanna Know,” his highly anticipated Drake diss track, Drizzy took his Instagram page to share his thoughts on the song.

The general consensus is that Meek Mill should have come waaaay harder — considering Drake released not just one, but TWO diss tracks aimed at him.

But since all he did was make a fool of himself with this poor attempt at a “diss track,” all he gets from Drizzy is laughs.

And Twitter has been going in on poor Meek all night long:

Nicki Minaj Goes in on Ex Boyfriend Safaree: You’re a “Bitch Ass N*gga” With “No Intellect”

safaree-samuels-nicki-minaj

While her boyfriend Meek Mill is being bodied by Drake over diss tracks, Nicki Minaj is releasing her wrath on her ex Safaree “SB” Samuels.

Safaree recently dropped a diss track titled “Lifeline” about Meek and Nicki, in which he says he ghostwrote for Nicki on The Pinkprint.

“My bars on The PinkPrint, no one’ll ever match. My dickprint, lil nigga you can never match,” Safaree raps in the song.

Listen to the whole song (if you care) here:

Apparently this didn’t sit so well with Nicki, who during her Toronto stop for The Pinkprint Tour fired shots right back at her ex Safaree.

Not only did Nicki refute Safaree’s claims that he wrote for her album, she also said he’s not even smart enough to write her rhymes.

“A bitch ass nigga can’t write my raps. You know why? You don’t have the heart, or the mind frame, or the motherfuckin’ intellect. Don’t even know how pronounce these motherfuckin’ words in my rap, bitch,” Nick told the crowd.

Meek Mill Finally Released That Drake Diss Track: “Wanna Know” ft. Quentin Miller

meek-mill

After what seems like forever, Meek Mill has finally responded to Drake’s diss tracks “Charged Up” and “Back to Back” with his own song aimed at the Canadian rapper he sparked a beef with.

The song is called “Wanna Know,” and it features Drake’s alleged ghostwriter Quentin Miller rapping Drizzy’s “Know Yourself” in what sounds like yet another reference track.

“If you ain’t write that runnin’ through the 6 shit / Tell us who the fuck was Quentin runnin’ through the 6 with?” Meek raps.

Take a listen here:

Cute, but Meek Mill going to have to come a lot harder than that.

Drake put out not just one, but TWO diss tracks in less than a week, and this is what you came up with, Meek? REALLY?

It took you a week to come up with this bruh? REALLY? Maybe you should have let Nicki help you, or something.

meek-nicki-chris-video

Days after sparking a beef with Drake, Meek Mill released the video for his new single “All Eyes On You,” which features his girlfriend Nicki Minaj and their third wheel Chris Brown, who sings the song’s hook.

Directed by Benny Boom, the video is filled with scenes of Nicki and Meek showing off major PDA (making out in the bathroom, getting frisky in the bed, taking selfies together as she licks his ear, etc.) while Chris Brown is just off in the cut like a third wheel singing to himself.

“All Eyes On You” is the first single from Meek’s new album Dreams Worth More Than Money.
