Karon Council: Fast Facts About New Jersey Teen Who Shot & Killed 10-Year-Old Boy

An 18-year-old New Jersey man named Karon Council is making headlines after he shot and killed an innocent 10-year-old boy over a dispute he had with an enemy of his.

After the shooting, Council fled to his girlfriend’s house in Florida and was arrested by U.S. Marshals and the Broward County Sheriff’s Dept. He was extradited back to New Jersey where he was officially charged with murder, aggravated assault, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Here’s what you need to know about Karon Council and the tragic shooting that took place:

Council took his beef out on his rival’s girlfriend’s family and ended up killing an innocent 10-year-old boy.

According to authorities, Council and a 16-year-old accomplice, Jah-Del Birch, went to a home in Asbury Park, New Jersey to confront a man named “Jameer” he was beefing with.

A teen inside the home answered the door and told Council that the man he was looking for was not at the home. Council and the teen left the home after they weren’t able to track their intended target, only to return moments later and open fire on the house.

“At that time, Council pulled out a gun from his waistband and began to shoot at the house,” an affidavit regarding the case stated. Witnesses told police that Council was one who fired shots at the home.

A 10-year-old boy named Yovanni Banos-Merino and his mother, 38-year-old Lilla Merino,  were both struck by bullets. The 10-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime. His mother was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and was treated for a gunshot wound in her leg.

After the shooting, Council fled to Florida, where authorities were able to track him down.

According to an arrest report obtained by NJ Advance Media, Council was arrested by U.S. Marshals and the Broward County Sheriff’s Department Sunday evening at a residence in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

U.S. Marshall Manny Puri said in a statement that Council was staying in South Florida with his girlfriend and her family. The gun Council used in the shooting was recovered at the home.

He was extradited back to New Jersey to appear before a Superior Court Judge.

Council is facing numerous charges over the shooting.

Council has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

His 16-year-old accomplice, Jah-Del Birch, was arrested at Neptune High School and is also facing murder and weapons charges.

According to public records, Council has been arrested in the past for disorderly conduct, trespassing, improper behavior, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Council is believed to be a member of the Bloods street gang.

Council is said to go by the street name “Boogie” and is gang affiliated.

“Council was a very dangerous fugitive with no sense of value for life and could have easily continued his violent behavior in South Florida,” Assistant Chief U.S. Marshal Manny Puri said in a statement.

A candlelight vigil was held for 10-year-old Yovanni Banos-Merino this past weekend.

At Yovanni’s candlelight vigil, his sister Vanessa Martinez spoke about how big of a heart her brother had and he would often give away his personal belongings.

“He loved everybody so,” Martinez said. “He doesn’t want to see you guys cry, I know that, because he’ll get mad and say, ‘Why are you guys crying? Don’t cry, I’m OK’ … He was a brave boy … Even though he’s not going to be here anymore, I know he’s looking after us and saying, ‘Everything is going to be OK.’ He was a good soul to be around. He never argued with anybody.”

Yovanni died in his sister’s arms on the night of the tragic event.

Yovanni’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for his funeral expenses.

Yovanni Banos-Merino’s family is accepting donations to help cover his funeral expenses via GoFundMe.

Merino’s sister wrote on the page:

“We are raising money for the funeral service. We are also raising money to transport him to Mexico. We are also raising money to pay the plane ticket. I Am his sister and I am the one who set up the go fund me. He died in a shooting may he Rest In Peace he was a angel and his laughter will always be remembered. We are from Asbury Park N.j.”

So far the family has raised over $18,000 out of their $30,000 goal to lay Yovanni to rest.

Prentis Robinson: Fast Facts About North Carolina Man Who Filmed Himself Being Shot & Killed on Facebook Live

A North Carolina man made headlines after he was shot to death while walking down the street during a Facebook Live stream Monday (Feb. 26).

Prentis Robinson, who had just celebrated his 55th birthday a few days before the shooting, was killed not too long after going to the police to report his cell phone had been stolen.

According to friends, Robinson regularly streamed live videos on Facebook and would sometimes highlight issues within his community, including calling out drug dealers. One friend said that Robinson would also “go live” if someone “messed with him.”

A suspect in the shooting, Douglas Colson, was arrested Tuesday morning after turning himself into the Wingate Police Department. He is facing a first-degree murder charge.

Here are some things you need to know about Prentis Robinson’s shooting death:

Five minutes before he was killed, Robinson went to the police station to report that his phone had been stolen.

Minutes before being shot and killed, Robinson went to Wingate Police Department to report one of his cell phones had been stolen by a family member.

Wingate Police Chief Donnie Gay, who had spoken to Robinson right before his death, said he was at a loss for words over the shooting.

“I’d just spoke to him, it was, I just … it’s hard to say anything about that,” Gay said. “I just got through talking to him.”

A live video stream showed Robinson speaking with Chief Gay, who told him he hadn’t found his phone yet.

Robinson then asked Gay to deliver a message to the person who stole his phone, and Gay said to the camera, “Bring his phone back so he can get on with his way today.”

Robinson then shook Gay’s hand and continued walking.

Robinson was recording on Facebook Live when he was murdered.

Robinson was walking home from the police station and recording on Facebook Live with a selfie stick when he was approached by a man wielding a long-barreled gun.

The live video showed the two exchanging a few words before Robinson told the man “You on Live” several times. Moments later, the gunman fired four shots, striking Robinson, and fled the scene.

When police arrived at the scene of the crime, Robinson was found face down in the street and was pronounced dead.

Douglas Cleveland Colson was arrested in connection with Robinson’s murder.

The gunman, Douglas Cleveland Colson, turned himself into authorities on Tuesday. He was charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond.

According to reports, Robinson and Colson knew each other, and weeks before the shooting, Robinson accused Colson of selling drugs in Wingate and “always [snitching] on the little young boys and get them [jail] time and stuff.”

Robinson was known for outing drug dealers on Facebook.

According to Robinson’s family members, Robinson often outed people on Facebook who were suspected drug dealers.

He would also help police find drug dealers and revealed their whereabouts. Some believe that this may have led to his death.

Robinson’s close friend Herbert Jordan told the news that he would get death threats for his posts on social media.

“People on the posts would comment and say, ‘Somebody is going to kill you,” Jordan said.

According to his Facebook page, Robinson was a musician and had just celebrated his 55th birthday days before his shooting death.

In several of his Facebook Live posts, Robinson can be seen playing the guitar, and moments before his death, he talked about his plans to move to Atlanta. Robinson had also recently celebrated his 55th birthday.

Robinson frequently used Facebook Live to document his day-to-day activities. The video below was recorded the day before he died and is the last one publicly available on his profile. The video showing him being shot and killed has been removed.

Facebook removed the video showing Robinson being shot to death.

“Because we cannot have known that the victim would have wanted this horrific act to be live streamed on social media, we have removed the original video,” a Facebook spokesperson said. “We will apply a warning screen to future uploads of the video intended to raise awareness or condemn this tragedy, and limit accessibility to people over the age of 18. We will remove instances of videos from Facebook that are shared supporting or encouraging such acts of violence.”

Mo’Nique Says She’s “Proud” of Tiffany Haddish After Signing Netflix Deal

Hey, my loves. Tiffany Haddish recently signed a deal with Netflix, and, believe it or not, Mo’Nique couldn’t be happier for her.

After the “Girls Trip” star was dragged into the drama surrounding Mo’Nique’s attempted Netflix boycott, Haddish announced that she got her own deal with the streaming giant, and Mo’Nique was quick to let her know how proud she was.

When Mo’Nique was asking folks to boycott Netflix because she felt like they refused to pay her what she’s worth because of her gender and the color of her skin, she name-dropped Tiffany Haddish, saying that she’s part of the reason why she refused to accept Netflix’s offer.

Mo’Nique believed that Netflix lowballed her with a $500K offer for a standup special and accused the streaming service of racial and gender bias because they paid Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock and Amy Schumer millions more.

“I couldn’t accept that low offer, because if I did … I couldn’t sleep at night,” she said on ‘Sway in the Morning.’ “I say this humbly: I am the most decorated comedian alive. But if I accepted $500,000, what does Tiffany Haddish have coming? If I accept that, what does the black female comedian have coming? Because what they’ll say is, ‘Mo’Nique accepted this and she’s got that.’ So what do they have coming?”

Over the weekend, a fan wrote to Haddish on Twitter, saying that if she were to get a multimillion-dollar Netflix deal it would be because Mo’Nique stood up for her and other up and coming black comediennes.

But Haddish was quick to let the fan know that her deal was signed, sealed and delivered way before Mo’Nique brought her issues with Netflix to the forefront.

Tiffany will be voicing one of the lead characters in a new Netflix animated comedy series called “Tuca & Bertie,” and despite Mo’Nique’s own personal issues with Netflix, she let Haddish know that she’s genuinely happy for her.

“You’ve done nothing wrong my sister. You KEEP SHINING,” she said on Twitter. “I am proud of you. You keep doing what [you’re] doing. You are making it better for the next ones.”

In recent interviews, Mo’Nique has had no problems butting heads with anyone who questions her claims that she’s been “bullied” and “blackballed” by Hollywood.

Just last week, the comedian clashed with Whoopi Goldberg on “The View” over her refusal to travel overseas to promote “Precious,” which Whoopi said was contractually part of her job. “if you had called me, I could’ve schooled you on what was expected,” Goldberg told her.

Mo’Nique also got into an argument with “The Breakfast Club” host Charlamagne tha God after he questioned her attempted Netflix boycott and called her “Donkey of the Day.”

“You don’t know the history of this business that you’re in,” she said. “You sit behind this microphone and try to be the guru of Black culture. I’m going to need you to know the history of us before you begin to label us and once you know the history, you know I’m not saying anything unique, brother.”

Mugshot Madness: NBA YoungBoy Denied Bail & Extradited to Georgia for Girlfriend Assault, Kidnapping Case

It looks like NBA YoungBoy won’t be getting out of jail anytime soon. Following his arrest Sunday (Feb. 25) in Tallahassee, Florida on a fugitive warrant, the “No Smoke” rapper has been extradited to Georgia to pose for a new mugshot and to face aggravated assault, kidnapping and weapons charges. And on top of that, the judge ordered him to be held without bail.

NBA YoungBoy (real name: Kentrell Gaulden) was caught on video allegedly assaulting his girlfriend Jania at a hotel in Waycross, Georgia, which is what brought on the charges. The surveillance footage appears to show the rapper body slamming his GF in the hallway before dragging her back into their room.

Police were called to the scene, but by the time they arrived, YoungBoy and his girlfriend had already left. He was later arrested in Tallahassee after his tour bus was pulled over and police found out he had outstanding warrants.

Following YoungBoy’s arrest, Jania quickly hopped on Periscope to deny that she was assaulted. According to her, the two were just playing around like they normally do, however, the judge presiding over the case isn’t trying to hear that, especially since blood was found in their hotel room.

NBA YoungBoy is no stranger to the law, as he was just released from prison last May after pleading to a lesser charge from an attempted murder case. In that incident, the 19-year-old admitted to firing shots on Baton Rouge’s Kentucky Street on November 2nd, 2016. Police believed the shooting was in retaliation for the murder of Keondrae Ricks, who was killed on a nearby street earlier that day.

The rapper—who has been blowing up on the rap scene since his release from prison—is currently prepping the release of his debut album, Until Death Call My Name, which is due out on March 2nd.

Trey Songz Under Investigation for Allegedly Punching & Choking Woman During NBA All-Star Weekend

R&B crooner Trey Songz may be in serious trouble with the law.

The “Love Faces” singer is being accused of punching and choking a woman during NBA All-Star weekend.

TMZ reports:

Law enforcement sources tell us the woman filed a police report claiming Trey hit her in the face Saturday night while they were attending a Hollywood Hills party.

The unidentified woman claims Songz became furious after she talked to another man. The two got into an argument and Songz allegedly assaulted her. Following the alleged attack, the woman left the party and went to the hospital to be treated for her injuries. She later filed a police report.

The woman is now being represented by popular feminist attorney Lisa Bloom. Bloom released a statement on behalf of her client:

“He called her names, choked her and repeatedly punched her in the face. Several people were present and no one helped her,” the statement read. “When she took out her phone to call an Uber to get out of there, he threw her phone off a cliff to prevent her from leaving. She took out a second phone and he threw that off the cliff as well.”

A Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman confirmed detectives are investigating the incident.

Songz responded to the allegations in a tweet stating, “This too shall pass”.
