Moments after leaving the bar, Walter White (now going by the alias “Mr. Lambert”) is trying to leave New Hampshire in a stolen car and discovering the owner has left the keys inside. Upon returning to Albuquerque, he tracks down Gretchen and Elliot Schwartz at their new house. Since the federal government would try to confiscate his money, he orders them to give his remaining $9.2 million to Walt Jr, who will inherit it upon turning eighteen.

Under the threat of apparent snipers waiting outside, the Schwartzes agree to help Walt; he references seeing their appearance on Charlie Rose and says this is their chance to “make things right.” After Walt leaves, it is revealed that he hired Badger and Pete to aim red laser pointers and pose as hitmen. He learns Jack’s gang has been cooking and distributing meth and that Jesse is believed to be missing. Meanwhile, Jesse is still being held captive and forced to cook for the gang.

Walt intercepts Todd and Lydia’s meeting at a coffee shop. He makes them a proposal and assures them that he is not going to try anything. Later, Skyler receives a phone call from Marie, who informs her Walt is back in town and planning something. As she ends the call, Walt is shown to be in the kitchen with her.

He confesses that his actions were horrible and ruined countless lives. Walt leaves Skyler with the lottery ticket that has the coordinates of the grave of Hank Schrader and Steve Gomez and tells her to use it to negotiate a plea deal with the DEA. He then tells her that his life as a drug manufacturer was for himself, rather than the family, stating that he did it because he enjoyed it and was good at it. He asks to see his children one last time. Skyler lets Walt see Holly, then Walt watches from afar as Walt Jr. arrives home.

Walt meets with Jack and his men at their hideout. Jack refuses Walt’s offer, but before he kills Walt, he calls for Jesse to be brought to him. After Jesse is brought in front of Walt, Walt tackles Jesse to the ground and uses his car keys to remotely fire the machine gun from his car. While Jack and Todd are only injured, the rest of Jack’s men are killed. Walt is also wounded in his side. Jesse strangles Todd with his handcuffs. Walt shoots Jack in the head, despite his insistence that Walt will never find the stolen money. As Walt is leaving, he answers Todd’s phone, and speaks to Lydia. He informs her that she is about to die from ricin poisoning, as he replaced her stevia with it.

Walt takes Jack’s gun and throws it over to Jesse. He aims the gun at Walt, preparing to kill him. Walt says “do it” and nods his head in approval. Jesse tells Walt to say he wants to die, to which Walt responds “I want it”. Jesse, unable to go through with shooting Walt, throws the gun back and says “If you want it, then do it yourself.” However, Jesse gives Walt a look of gratitude as the two nod farewell to one another. Jesse then leaves and drives off in Jack’s El Camino, excited to finally be free of his old life.

After confirming that all of Jack’s men are dead, Walt goes to Jack’s lab and begins admiring the equipment, holding a gas mask and rubbing a kettle. Then, he succumbs to his bullet wound, collapsing on the ground just as police arrive. Officers storm the lab, and one begins inspecting the now deceased Walt.
