Two years ago Stephanie Dandan, a.k.a. Sartori, ditched plans of college and career and realized a dream that many plan for but few pursue: she started traveling the world. Confined by a small budget, she lived nomadically with only the clothes and supplies she could fit in her backpack and survived thanks to the hospitality of strangers, all the while documenting her journey with her camera. Now, Sartori’s on a mission to create a book full of the inspiring stories from like-minded nomads. She’s calling it “The Wanderers,” and she needs your help to make it a reality.

My name is Stephanie Dandan and I am currently in San Diego. I’m originally from the Philippines—home to the Filipinos, the happiest and most resilient human beings in the world.

By trade, I’m a photographer, freelance writer, and founder of my travel blog, infinitesatori.org, and blogger at wearesolesisters.com, which means that I spend my days shooting, writing, editing, traveling, and exploring. On my own time, I practice yoga and meditation, run, hike, and explore.

I’m in the midst of creating “The Wanderers,” a Kickstarter project to create an adventure photo book that depicts the stories and lives of wanderers, explorers, and nomads from all over the world. I will go on a solo backpacking journey through Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Burma, Malaysia, Philippines, India, Nepal, and wherever else the road takes me to find “the wanderers” and tell their stories. You can pledge your support for my project at Kickstarter.com.

I admire people who are brave enough to create their own paths. The ones who choose to follow their bliss and live their lives just doing whatever the hell they love.

My favorite outdoor activity is hiking, hands down, and it has taught me to always be in the present moment. My gear of choice is my CamelBak.

The most amazing place I’ve ever traveled is Palawan, Philippines, where I discovered emerald green lagoons that makes your eyes so wide it opens up the depths of your soul; Palawan is the paradise of all paradises. From swimming with whale sharks to trekking in the Ifugao Rice Terraces, the eighth wonder of the world, the Philippines has so much magic to offer and it is still the most beautiful country I have ever been to.

One luxury item I always have with me is my iPhone. My most prized possession is my Nikon, but the most important thing to me is the people I love, from my friends and family, to random strangers I serendipitously meet on the road, the people I photograph, to my readers and followers

To take care of my skin, I drink lots of water and use French lavender lotion made with essential oils. When my hair is in rough shape thanks to being outdoors all the time, I use Davine’s Natural Tech Nourishing Vegetarian Miracle Conditioner.

One thing I’d love to learn how to do is to be better at surfing and graduate to using a shortboard, because I want to ride the waves of each country I go to.

The most challenging outdoor activity I’ve tried is rock climbing. My most memorable experience of this is in Railay Beach, Krabi, Thailand. I had only rock climbed once prior to this and it was in an indoor rock climbing gym in California, a beginner’s route. Fast forward months later and a small Thai version of Bob Marley is holding my weight through a rope as I rest on the top of a cliff somewhere in the Thai Islands; he was laughing at my rock climbing efforts and yelling broken English I couldn’t hear. I climbed to the top and it was definitely a challenge, but I absolutely loved it. Then I looked at the view of the golden sunset before me as I hung from the top of that limestone cliff, and took it all in. It was so worth it. I’ll never stop challenging myself.

My weekly workout schedule looks something like this: A daily walk or run, yoga and meditation routine, long distance running, surfing or hiking or biking on the weekends.

The next item I have a chance of crossing off my bucket list is backpacking all of South East Asia, India, and Nepal, which I will be doing in a few months.

My favorite piece of advice for living a healthy lifestyle is cut the toxic “food” and eat healthy, organic food. Drink lots of water, eat lots of greens. Practice yoga and meditation. Do this and it will change your life in the best possible way. The words of wisdom I live by are “follow your goosebumps. Goosebumps don’t lie.”
