Skydiver gives hand signals to check condition of James Lee, who was knocked unconscious in free fall; photo from Lee’s helmet camera that shows his unresponsive hand is courtesy of Caters News Agency
An experienced skydiver in the U.K. was accidentally knocked unconscious by another skydiver moments after jumping out of a plane at 12,500 feet in Wiltshire, sending him spinning in free fall. James Lee, 25, doesn’t remember a thing about the terrifying accident, in which other skydivers came to his aid, steadied him, pulled his ripcord, and saved his life. Lee regained consciousness as he safely floated down to earth. His helmet camera captured the harrowing moments, and MailOnline brings it to you:
Lee was making his 1,050th jump, along with 12 others. After jumping with one wave of skydivers, Lee was looking down when suddenly his world was turned upside-down by the impact of another skydiver.
“One of the skydivers who left the plane through the door came out unstable and went into a spin,” Lee, who eventually learned what had happened, explained to MailOnline. “They were falling faster than I was and their shin impacted the back of my helmet with a lot of force, knocking me out.
“I am now tumbling through the air uncontrollably and two other skydivers realized something was wrong. They chased after me and fortunately I roll into a more stable position—still quickly drifting in the sky.”

You can see one skydiver giving hand signals in an attempt to see if Lee was OK. Realizing he wasn’t, he and another skydiver grabbed his arms to steady him, waved off the other skydivers, and deployed his main parachute.
The two heroic skydivers opened their chutes once Lee was clear.
At some point while drifting downward, Lee regained his senses and managed to land without further incident. He was taken to a hospital, treated for a head injury, and was discharged.
The incident occurred last summer, but details and the video were just released Wednesday.
“I am very glad that everything unfolded how it did,” Lee told MailOnline. “This is not something you are taught to do or practice for as it is very uncommon. I think my mum and girlfriend are more relieved than I am.”
