A huge dilemma presented itself after Jason Greatsinger hooked into “an absolute monster” lake trout while ice fishing on Lake Superior. How would he get the fish through the hole in the ice?
Greatsinger and Jeremy Rydberg, who videotape their fishing adventures and post them on JigHeadsTV, were 20 miles off Duluth, Minnesota, the farthest they’d ever ventured out onto the ice.

When Greatsinger got the fish close to what looks to be an 8-inch-wide hole in the ice, the challenge ahead was obvious since they were able to see through the ice.
“Look—it’s wider than the hole,” Rydberg said on the video.
“How the heck is this going to work?” Greatsinger replied. “I’m not sure how I’m going to get this thing.”
“Do we need to drill another hole?” Rydberg asked.
Well, no, they didn’t drill another hole, but watch the exciting moments and see how Greatsinger is able to get a lake trout that is easily more than 20 pounds through a small hole in the ice:
As you can see, Greatsinger managed to reach down through the 20-inch-thick ice, grab the tail of the fish, and pull it up through the hole.
“That’s the hardest fighting fish I’ve ever caught through the ice,” he said.
In their blog, Greatsinger and Rydberg describe themselves as “two normal Joes that love our fishing. We have been known to get a little overexcited about our fish and it has shown.”
And it showed in their latest ice fishing adventure on Lake Superior.
